Youth at work, recycling and creating Green Jobs (Green Jobs Project)
Uddannelse
Uganda

Youth at work, recycling and creating Green Jobs (Green Jobs Project)
Green Jobs 24-5801-CSP-UI
The Green Jobs project has the overall purpose to reduce youth unemployment and promote sustainable and inclusive development in the Teso subregion of Uganda. The project aims to address this purpose by:
- engaging young people in sustainable employment or running green businesses, thereby contributing to improving their standard of living
- raising environmental awareness and supporting green initiatives through youth-led community structures in the form of Community-Based Environmental Clubs (CBECs) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)
- increasing the representation of young people in political dialogue and planning processes at the district and national levels through coordinated youth-led political efforts to influence the attitudes of politicians and the public.
The program is jointly managed by YLEC and Seniors Without Borders. Through the formation of five Community-Based Environmental Clubs (CBECs), young people will receive practical training in areas such as biogas production, briquette making, composting and green crafts. The project also supports economic empowerment through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and strengthens youth voices in politics through a trained Youth Policy Task Force. In collaboration with local leaders, CSOs and public bodies, the project promotes community-driven solutions to unemployment and climate challenges. The intended change is a more economically empowered, environmentally conscious youth population that is actively engaged in green businesses and local governance with systems in place to ensure sustainability and scale-up beyond the project period.
