Involvement of Danish agricultural enthusiasts in development work

Pengene til projektet er bevilget af CISU gennem ”Engagementspuljen”. Projektet har til formål at engagere interesserede danskere til at deltage i udviklingsarbejde med fokus på landbrug.

I dansk landbrug er de basale menneskelige behov alle opfyldt, men det er sket på bekostning af naturressourcer / klimaaftryk / biodiversitet.

Modsat …

I ugandisk landbrug er de basale menneskelige behov IKKE opfyldt, men der er plads til forbedringer uden at sætte bæredygtigheden over styr.

Både dansk og ugandisk landbrug er altså i ”ubalance” og nytænkning / omstilling er nødvendig! I Danmark har vi måske ideer til hvordan det kan / skal ske? Men hvad skal / kan en ugandisk landmand gøre for at øge indtjeningen og forbedre levestandarden uden at sætte bæredygtigheden over styr?

Det vil vi gerne have en debat omkring og løsninger til. Projektet har derfor inviteret 4 ugandere (2 landbrugslærere, 1 landbrugselev og 1 landmand) til Danmark for 4 uger. Uganderne har alle tilknytning til en landbrugsskole i Kigumba (i det nordlige Uganda lidt syd for Murchison National Park) . De kommer i april 2023 og skal rundt og besøge landmænd, landbrugsskoler, grovvareselskaber, landboforeninger, museer, højskoler, forsøgscentre o.m.a. – de skal kort sagt have et rimeligt indtryk af dansk landbrug og finde ud af hvad de ”kan tage med hjem” til Uganda.

På møderne kan vores gæster give en introduktion til ugandisk landbrug, hvorefter vi meget gerne vil diskutere mulig ugandisk landbrugsudvikling med udgangspunkt i doughnut modellen.

Ugandernes besøg afsluttes med en workshop, hvor de særligt interesserede danskere (fundet på møderne) sammen med uganderne vil forsøge at skitsere et fremtidigt landbrugsprojekt i Uganda med fokus på at forbedre landbrugsuddannelserne.

Involvement of Danish agricultural enthusiasts in development work

The money for the project has been granted by CISU through the “Engagement pool”. The project aims to engage interested Danes to participate in development work with a focus on agriculture.

In Danish agriculture all the basic human needs are met. But this has happened at the expense of natural resources / climate footprint / biodiversity.

Whereas ..

In Ugandan agriculture, basic human needs are NOT met, but there is room for improvement without compromising sustainability.

Thus, both Danish and Ugandan agriculture are “out of balance” and new thinking / restructuring is necessary!

In Denmark, we may have ideas on how this can / should happen? But what should / can a Ugandan farmer do to increase income and improve living standards without compromising sustainability? That we would like to debate.

The project has therefore invited 4 Ugandans (2 agricultural teachers, 1 agricultural student and 1 farmer) to Denmark for 4 weeks. The Ugandans are all connected to an agricultural school in Kigumba (in northern Uganda a little south of Murchison National Park). They will arrive in April 2023 and will visit farmers, agricultural schools, farmer organizations, Danish High schools, museums, agricultural research centers and more. – in short, they will gain a reasonable impression of Danish agriculture and find out what they “can bring home” to Uganda.

At the meetings, our guests can give an introduction to Ugandan agriculture, after which we would very much like to discuss possible Ugandan agricultural development based on the doughnut model.

The Ugandans’ visit ends with a workshop, where the particularly interested Danes (found at the meetings) together with the Ugandans will try to outline a future agricultural project in Uganda with a focus on improving agricultural education.
